Visit El Paso @ SXSW 2018

Why yes, that is El Paso mayor Dee Margo in the pedicab-turned-gondola!

2017 was the first time El Paso ever promoted themselves at SXSW. Boss David, an El Paso native, was thrilled to work with them, which is a partnership that has also carried on into 2019. In the 2017 article, I outline some of my favorite parts of El Paso and its surrounding area; I recommend reading it, if that seems interesting.

Visit El Paso selected the following options for their campaign:

Full wraps and Wheel covers for 9 pedicabs, from our Ad printing menu. Only 1 pedicab was fully wrapped; the other 8 pedicabs were split evenly between 2D signboards or gondolas. Only the rear wheels had covers, for a total of 18 wheel covers.

Same as in 2017, Visit El Paso sent us 3 distinct ads. This year’s theme was “Two States, Two Cities, One Region,” celebrating the the El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico metropolian area in particular.

2D signboards, 3D fixtures, and Custom canopies, from our Outside the box menu. Sunny El Paso mascot Amigo Man was the subject of the 2D signboards, and — I know, I glossed over “gondolas” earlier. If you were unaware, El Paso is home to the Wyler Aerial Tramway, enticingly described here by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. Our pedicabs were fashioned after its gondolas. (Unfortunately, the Tramway was closed indefinitely later in 2018. πŸ™ I poured one out in memoriam.)

Pretty cool. We like making stuff.

Their campaign is part of our Visitor’s bureaus portfolio. (We also worked together in 2017 and 2019.)
