New private members only discussion forum

While nothing that gets published on the internet is really ever “private”, there are ways to have a “less public” discussion.  At the request of a couple of people, I have created a members only discussion forum.  While I hope that we will be able to have some free-wheeling off the cuff and candid chat, I would like to encourage people not to slander each other and keep things on topic.

I have never moderated a discussion forum before.  I will make mistakes as I go.  I will piss people off.  I may accidentally or intentionally come across as heavy handed.  I may have to kick people off the forum if they repeatedly act like jerks.  If things get really ugly and unproductive, I may kill the whole thing.  Please behave and talk amongst yourselves.

Users will be  creating a user name and password.  In order for your membership to be approved, you must create a user name that either corresponds with you actual name (i.e. John Smith), the nick name you are know by on the street (i.e. JohnnyS or Jimbo, Silver Fox or something of the like), or a user name that would make you easily identifiable (i.e. JSmith).  In other words you may feel free to speak frankly in relative privacy, but you will not be anonymous.

Please go to http://forum.austinpedicab.org to check it out.

Please be patient while I get things set up and learn the ropes.

Well, if you’re going to do a bulletin board, it’s not too late to change. I’d recommend the Simple Machines Forum over PHPBB!

You’re gonna get hammered by SPAMbots and PHPBB will require a bunch of Mods to combat the problem. SMF has the tools built in.
