Independent pedicab drivers lose their licenses (in Cuba)
And I thought that we were under too much pressure in Austin. At least we don’t have a local political boss breathing down our necks.

Independent pedicab drivers lose their licenses
HAVANA (Carmelo Díaz Fernández, APSIC) – Local authorities in Camaguey have threatened to lift the licenses of pedicab drivers who work for themselves or belong to independent unions.
The authorities insisted that all pedicab drivers must join the Cuban Workers Central, which supports the government.
Agustín Alfonso, a member of the independent United Council of Cuban Workers, said there are 492 pedicab drivers in Camaguey who want to found or join an independent union.
Apparently Alfonso’s remarks triggered the threat by local authorities.
The pedicabs are tricycles modified to carry passengers as a response to a crisis in transportation in Cuba.
