Transportation Department Halts Downtown PedicabThe Los Angeles Downtown News recently reported on a new pedicab business launched by Eric Green, who had been seen riding through Downtown on his two-seat rickshaw-like conveyance that ferried tourists and locals across the area. Two weeks ago, however, officials from the Department of Transportation informed Green he needs special permits to operate the Green Machine - even though he had already obtained a business license and insurance. Because the concept is new to Downtown, Green said the permitting process could take until the end of the year. “I’m in limbo,” Green said. “I haven’t been told I can’t operate this business but it will be a lengthy process. Several other agencies have to check me off and give me the okay.” Green said he had hoped to have a mini fleet of the bright green pedicabs operating by the end of the year. Until he receives the proper permits, the business will be grounded.
